I’ve been stuck in a health rut for as long as I can remember. Well since my son was born over 5 years ago to be precise.
Pregnancy was kind to me (daily nausea aside). I actually lost weight – I lost my appetite for sweet things and lived on cheese sandwiches. My skin was glowing, my hair and nails were in the best condition ever and I had a permanent smile on my face.
Then came baby. The baby that didn’t sleep for over 4 years. Yes, you read that correctly – and I don’t mean rumbling about a bit at night time. I mean a fully wide awake little human wanting to play at 3am every night.
Now the consequences of sleep deprivation are major. During the day I actually felt sick sometimes. Eternally tired, my craving for sugary sweet things went through the roof. I went from eating to snacking and that combined with little sleep meant that my metabolism all but stopped. I had limited energy during the day and by the time I went to baby classes and made the family dinner I had no urge to do anything else. Exercise was a luxury that I couldn’t commit to. Needless to say the weight creeped on….
Fast forward to now and I recently joined a new gym in my area. My little guy has just started school so that gives me a whole lotta time during the day to start turning my life around. A few months back, I started a business selling Health & Wellness products and while I can’t credit them on their own for my change in attitude, it’s no coincidence. I use natural products on myself and my family (as much as they’ll let me) and last week I had my first session with a personal trainer at the gym. It wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be. He’d been briefed beforehand not to bore me with cardio and we did weight training and a high intensity workout.
So lookout world, here comes a new me. Or a better version of me at least. People have already commented that I’m looking good and it’s not because I’ve lost weight (yet!). It’s probably because I feel better about myself than I have in a long time and I’m not just helping others to look and feel better, I’m helping me too!
